THE GREAT
EASTERN OZARK RENDEZVOUS
in Bollinger County

By: Allen “horntagger” Morris

One of the greatest historical events that took place in North American history is the Rendezvous – It was the meeting place for the historical importance of trapping and trade that grew our great country. It so historical in nature that built the foundation of our nation we live in today.
The city of St. Louis was founded for the fur trade and where the wealth of St. Louis was started and built on.
The Missouri Fur Company was one of the earliest fur trading companies in St. Louis and Rendezvous located in west, where determined by the trade routes that took it directly to St. Louis, Missouri.
This history and the importance of this history should not be forgotten!
Well the EASTERN OZARK RENDEZVOUS an event that took place at the Bark Plantation in Bollinger County, Missouri and was free to the public.
A throwback took place March 17th and 18th, 2018 into history with the of smell of black powder in the air, tomahawks and buckskin. Mountain men, women and families came together to bring this AMERICAN TRADITION back with great crafts, trade goods, blacksmithing, carving, traditional bow, wood arrows and arrowheads, outdoorsmen skills and competition along with some outstanding music. This hopefully won’t be the last, a great place for the entire family and to show kids some great living history.

Another thing that can keep this great Eastern Ozark Rendezvous going next year is support from local chamber of commerce, business leaders that can sponsor this event, or groups in the Southeast Missouri area. Even providing firewood which is a staple at any rendezvous would be a great contribution. If you fall into any of these categories get in touch with Tommy Smith at 573-225-4424 or smittysmith@gmail.com

Some of the best music you will ever hear!!
