August 7th, 2014 Food Plots

41 days till bow season and getting some good rains, Food plots are still growing - These food plots are called a Jungle Plot

If you walked up to the food plot and at first glance you would say.

Why did my Sunflowers have a complete failure in one plot?

Why are my Forage Soybeans so short in all plots?

This is a prime example of why planting one single plant for a food plot can be a complete disaster.

High population of deer and small plots in middle of woods. The beans outside of Exclusion Cages are boot high. The one with sunflower inside cage that food plot has NONE on the outside.
First Seven Days of population survey - I have big positive's and one big negative.

For the positive. I have 13 different whitetail doe. Some with some serious attitude. Looks like doe is on the menu again this year.

The other big population survey positive out of the 13 does I have 4 with twins fawn and 1 with a single fawn. Making cover and trapping predators is paying off.

Now for the BAD BAD BAD only one good.

2012 Buck called Elvis appears run off by Tall 12.
2013 Buck called Elvis becomes boss of property but all nocturnal.
2014 Elvis is seen growing antler and last photo was June, then something happen no photos of him in the month of July.

Planted super tall food plot specifically for him to create cover with food, to try to change a habit from nocturnal to twilight.

Just when you think you have it all figure out, here comes mother nature to remind you, that you are not in control.

Elvis health has gone down hill, the end of his rack is broke and either he has been bit by a snake because his hoof is swollen or he has a hip injury and won't put hoof down.

But whatever happen, his antler growth looks like it has slowed or stopped.

I sure hope he lives.

Unfortunately, I don't know if his injury or food plot has done the job, but I have the first ever daylight photos in 3 years.

Elvis Last Day seen August 7th, 2014 no more photos as of August 14th
if no photos as of August 21st will consider him dead.
