 Crazy Afternoon - November 30th, 2011

Picture
Was sighting in my muzzleloader for managed hunt and ml season, then went bow hunting.

First food plots looks like trails and tracks have really picked up in them.

Watched large group of turkeys walking in on main road far side from my location, about 4:00 p.m.

They moved into woods and valley to my left. At least 15 to 20 birds, some running, walking flying into tree to roost.

Then a bobcat shows up on my right side and makes it way around me about 40 yards and head towards turkeys.

Then another bobcat much larger shows up and starts to cut across and heads towards turkeys 32 yards pull back and cat jumps in air and starts running away towards brush pile watch arrow flip in air and watch cat flip over brush pile and and then nothing.

Then I heard something behind me across fence and their a deer angle towards fence, then another and then another, I can see them right on fence 60 yards but dropping below line of sight I think I can hear them jump fence.

Then I here noise past brush pile and another deer shows up then another these two walk into the the food plot at 60 yards and turkey are still flying from tree to tree, deer payed no attention to it, while they eat a squirrels go crazy the direction the deer came from a huge blad eagle comes flying in below tree top level not 15 feet right over the top of the deer and they payed no attention but the turkeys did, they started cackling stayed that way till dark.

Finally gets dark and I tried to stay longer so deer don't see me come out of stand, but I still come down even if the deer are still out their I am now about to freeze and still have a cat to look for. I get to edge of food plot can hear deer run out walk over find my arrow go to brush pile climb to where I saw it go over their it layed dead.

Little stiff when I picked it up put it was cold I guess, by time made it back to truck I am now frozen too. So took one quick pic with phone and got in truck with the heat.

Will take more photos and find out more tomorrow when I get it out of truck.

Male, head seems to be about size of my hands with fingers spread out paws seem to be bigger than my female labs and I have a 4' bow case and it about 12" shorter than that.

Male Bobcat - Weight 24 lbs, Length 34 inches.

Picture
This make the 7th bobcat I have seen this bow season, but also make the first bobcat I have killed.

Dropped it off to the taxidermist today also.

Mingo Managed Hunt 2011- Deer & Hog

Crazy, Looks like it only going to be a one day hunt with the forecast

They killed some monster bucks today, they tell me has a mingo facebook page with deer pics.

Should shot my doe today also but too busy messing getting the buck out.

Watch lots of deer this morning had doe in scope the evening but they scare by road and truck traffic near curve.

Broken tine 8 pointer early this morning, he herd the double click of my sidelock muzzleloader but it was too late for him.

Will have some before and after bullet pics but I been up 21 hours so they will have to wait.

Guess he was a fighter not a lover. Field dress weight 137 lbs and that puts him around est 171 lbs live weight and the age him at 2 1/2 years old, I guessed him at 3 1/2.

Of course he weighed 500 lbs about time I got him back to truck.

Great hunt wish I could go tomorrow, but rain will shut the entire place down.

Just a little info from talking with a few that I had talks with.

Myself I been drawn twice in 17 years with the first time took 5 years and second to 12 years.

Before and after bullet pics

Picture
This pulled from the deer just other the hide, when the bullet hit the force, shocked the shoulder and leg, that the leg broke 6" below the bullet entry point.

Mingo Feral Hog

Picture
Now I did not shoot any of the pigs they said the spot 23 hogs today.

If thats the case I would put mingo at beyond serious for hogs. And any land around mingo will suffer, mingo will be like a hog nusery

Sow 149 lbs field dressed

Mingo Feral Hogs

Picture
Sow 233 lbs live weight

Little bore weight 87 lbs they also shot one more beyond these last looked.

Great hunt wish I could go tomorrow, but rain will shut the entire place down.

When turned in my tag and checked out at 1:00 pm on Sunday. They have harvested 54 deer and I think 5 or 6 hogs. They only killed 10 today.

Last year they had close 100. Too much rain.

April 20th, 2011 Spring Turkey Season

Picture
Spring Turkey Season 2011 Horntagger 20lbs 9 oz, 9" Beard, 1" Spurs at
Turkey Buzzard Ranch - Gobbled killed early at 6:30 a.m. he was by himself.

We had tornado and nasty storm come thru the area last night. After I got done hunting this morning I drove down to the river to see the damage. Here what it look like everyone that lived their ok they stayed in closet when it hit.

Let me set this up for you.

Been so busy with following my kid baseball, etc on Wednesday 13th I finally had time to go thru everything and get ready for the season. When I find out I have one shell that my gun and sights are patterned for.

Well contacted 14 different stores the next day no luck. Ended up ordering from Cabelas and would not get them till the 25th. LOL. Don’t miss.

Went out early Sunday 17th to listen over 8 gobblers in this location gobbling up a storm things are looking good.

Monday morning, gobbling but all far away almost out of ear shot. Go Figure. Maybe there on an every other day pattern.

Tuesday morning wind 20 to 30 mph. Never heard a gobble.
Monster storm hits, sirens go off during kids game, tornado back at location near my land. Thought well turkeys should be scattered and looking for others to hang with.

Now this bird started to gobble early within 5 minutes after I got set up on the ridge but so far away I could barely here him. Forgot my watch so I am guessing at time either 5:50 or 6:00 a.m. There is a Jake, and two hen decoys to my left. I am hunting out of the Christmas tree blind in my bottoms food plot. with one shell, and landowner tag only.

I trying to call enough to get him to come but not too much make him hold his ground. He will have to come a long way then down the ridge and on the far side of food plot there is a old fence which is corner of my property that he will have to cross then and a swollen valley creek that is running. LOL

My thought are to call in opposite direction and to convince him that the reason the hen is not coming because one of the other 8 gobblers are already over here. Remember it brain so big it thinks of all these things.LOL

I am wearing those recording video glasses, at the end when it gobbled it echo in my valley I actually thought their one behind me. Thought it was coming left but went right so I ended up turning my head so far right I did not get the best video. Oh well all you can do is what you can do. Shot took place at around 6:30 a.m.

By the way my shells arrived by ups when I got back. LOL guess I am ready for round two. Either it was fun today. My son had killed two turkey on the place back in 2007 when I bought it and I have never killed one, this was the first on my place.
